Sea to the east and bordering with Yangyang-gun to the south with Ssangcheon running through bordering with Goseong-gun to the north, bounded by Guksabong; and bordering on Yangyang, Goseong, and Inje to the west, bounded by the splendid Seoraksan.

Seoraksan is created as follows. Daecheongbong, the main peak of Seoraksan, which is 1,708m high above sea level extends east, elevating Hwachaebong, Geumganggul, Ulsanbawi Rock, and Dalmabong.

Then the mountain range is divided into two, one of which stretches, creating small and big mountains such as Jubongsan, and Cheongdaesan, passing through the center of Sokcho-si, to the East Sea; the other extends north to Yeongeumjeong, with the rest of it going under the sea toward the seashore, and then rising up again in the sea.

There are two rivers, Ssangcheon and Cheongchocheon.

Starting from Seoraksan, Ssangcheon flows to the East Sea.The river spans 16㎞, forming Domunpyeongya. Starting from Dalmabong, Cheongchocheon flows to Cheongchoho.

The river stretches 12㎞, functioning as an irrigation canal to Soyapyeongya. With the famous Seoraksan in the center, Sokcho-si is 248㎞ away from the capital of Korea, Seoul; 174.6㎞away from Chuncheon, the seat of the province office; and 62㎞ away from the DMZ. Surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful tourist attractions, from mountains, sea, lakes (Cheongchoho, Yeongnangho), hot spas, and to beaches, Sokcho-si, as a tourist and marine city, continues to make great progress, rising above all changes.
